August 2020, central Iowa was hit by a Derecho Wind Storm. Striking with unanticipated ferocity, the derecho brought winds gusting to more than 70 mph for the better part of an hour over a large swath of central and eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois. Numerous locations clocked gusts over 110 mph.

The storm rolled through about 11 AM and the phones started ringing as soon as the storm passed.

The first couple of calls we received came from our previous customers saying they received some storm damage. There was non-stop ringing of the phones for the next couple of weeks. As we were answering the phones we noticed a lot of customers were calling for things we didn’t install, then the calls from homeowners who bought siding from other companies that do not do repairs.

So Midwest Construction in business since 1958, with thousands of siding customers knew what had to be done. We had to take care of our customers first!!!

We logged in our previous customers as they called in with their request for service; I went to almost 90% of the storm damage claims to give the homeowners an estimate for the repairs. Once the insurance company approved, materials were ordered and repairs were scheduled.

The storm couldn’t have come at a worse time. Since factories were shut down due to Covid materials lead time almost tripled and our company was extremely busy as we usually are at that time of the year.

Since, we had a backlog of siding jobs our company made the decision to only service our existing customers and referred other calls to storm restoration companies in our area.

Midwest Construction is proud to say, American Classic Insulated Vinyl Siding stayed on the wall even during the Derecho winds that rolled through Iowa. Most of the Derecho Storm Wind Damage was caused by flying debris, trees falling onto the home and some soffit and fascia blown out of the overhangs.

Check out some of the storm damage photos:

Flying debris hit the side of the home.

The photo below, a tree fell in the backyard. Damaged roof, gutters, fascia and put a hole in the siding from the outside in.
