Midwest Construction of Mason City and Grimes, Iowa got into the replacement window business in March of 1983. Our founder, Alex Despenas, took almost 2 years to pick a window manufacturer he felt would be with him for the long haul.
As he looked at vinyl window manufacturers across the country, he noticed the window frames and sashes were flimsy, glued and screwed together for stability. The vinyl was blended and co-mingled with other vinyl products to produce a thicker extrusion at less cost. The warranties were written to protect the manufacturers and not to really service the homeowners.
The last trip he made was to Great Lakes Window located in Toledo, Ohio.
The first thing he noticed was the manufacturing equipment. It looked fairly new. The second thing he noticed was the thick, heavy extrusions. He was very impressed with the welding machines to attach the master frames and sash frames. His final decision was based on future research and development, insuring the homeowners and the future generation a product that will truly stand the test of time.
