Alex started in the replacement siding business with a company out of Des Moines, Iowa and did well for the company he worked for. After a couple of years driving all over the Midwest he started his own company In Mason City, Iowa.  He could be home every night, spend time with his family, and provide quality exterior home improvement to homeowners in North Iowa.

When looking for replacement windows back in 1983, we didn’t have the Google Bar to do our research. We had to get on an airplane and actually visit the window factory. When my father wanted to get into the replacement window business he asked his suppliers, got their opinion and then picked up the telephone and called the window factory. Once he made it to the right person, my father set an appointment with the factory rep. Flew to the factory, toured the plant, and met with sales and marketing, and finally met with research and development. After several trips to look at windows, he settled for Great Lakes Windows out of Toledo, Ohio. I asked him why he made that decision. He said, “out of all of the window plants I went to Great Lakes was the only one who had dedicated money to Research and Development for the future and will always be the leader in the window industry.”

In 1985, Alex sent his son Paul to open a new sales and installation office in Des Moines, Iowa, with 2 offices in Iowa, serving home owners with Quality Products and Quality Installation. Midwest Construction has won numerous awards from their manufacturers for sales volume, service and design.
