If you take a look at the photos of this home built in 1999 in Clive, Iowa you will see why hundreds and maybe thousands of Iowa homeowners are forced to install new windows.

During the height of the building boom, contractors here in Central, Iowa were busy building homes and doing the job for the cheapest they could put them up.

This is the best example I can give you and we see this everyday out in the field.

This home has over 40 window, door and patio door openings. Not one opening had water protection around the opening and to make matters worse the contractor used a builder’s grade window in this $400,000 dollar home.

The windows failed because the manufacturer used cheap materials and a faulty design. Water and moisture would come down the exterior sash and weep behind the nonexistent glazing bead, soak into the wood sash cover by aluminum and rot from the inside out.

The framing was affected because the builder didn’t use a house wrap, tar paper or window/door tape. This caused the water to soak in behind the window and exterior casings and rot the framing around the window openings.

Since the homeowners are involved in a class action lawsuit with the window manufacturer, they needed to get this repaired before it caused any more damage.

Midwest Construction removed the soft and rotten 1x6 manufactured wood casings, cleaned out the rotten 2x4s, installed new lumber and then completely sealed the opening by using Greengard window and door tape. This will prevent any water or air infiltration around the window.

After the window opening was sealed, the Midwest Construction crew installed new pine 1x6 and covered the complete casing with custom bent aluminum PVC coil stock.
